Approximately annual conferences in Industrial Hygiene were held in Australia from 1960 onward (“Conference/Meeting of Scientific Officers Engaged in Field of Industrial Hygiene”) in the 26 February 1979 conference the agenda included a formal debate for the proposal for the creation of an “Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists” after much discussion this was passed unanimously including the make up of an interim council with Trevor Jones as President. In June 1980 the Scientific Officers Conference/Meeting (not AIOH) continued and at the completion of the second day the first AGM of the AIOH was conducted. The name was not changed to AIOH Conference until about 2 years later, the first live in Conference was at Leura in 1985 and came about when 3 brave juniors at the time (Davies, Rogers and Goodhew) financially staked the meeting at a motel in Leura NSW- some of the then oldies told us it would be a failure and no one would come – it was booked out in less than a week, and and the rest is history.
